What is the best type of engine for a Ford Mondeo?

I am considering buying a Ford Mondeo and I am unsure of which type of engine to choose. Should I go for a petrol or diesel engine? Can anyone give me some advice on the pros and cons of each?

I have been a Ford Mondeo owner for years and I can confidently say that the diesel engine is the way to go. It offers better fuel efficiency and a smoother ride compared to the petrol engine.
