When should the brake pads be changed in a Ford S-Max?

I just bought a used Ford S-Max and I'm wondering when I should change the brake pads. The current mileage is 50,000 and I'm not sure if the previous owner had changed them recently. Is there a specific mileage or warning sign that I should look out for?

Brake pads should typically be changed every 30,000-50,000 miles, so it might be a good idea to have them checked by a mechanic at your next oil change or maintenance appointment. It's better to be proactive and replace them before they wear out completely.

If you notice any squeaking or grinding noises when you brake, that's a sign that your brake pads are worn out and need to be replaced as soon as possible. It's always best to err on the side of caution and have them checked by a professional mechanic.

You can also visually inspect your brake pads to see if they have at least ¼ inch of pad material left. If they look thin or worn down, it's time for a replacement. And remember, always replace all four pads at the same time for even wear.
