Why does my Ford Ranger engine make a strange noise?

I recently bought a Ford Ranger and I've noticed that when I start the engine, it makes a loud knocking noise. It goes away after a few minutes but it's still concerning. Is this something I should be worried about?

Hi Samantha, it's normal for Ford Ranger engines to make a knocking noise during start-up. This is due to the hydraulic valve lifters. As long as the noise goes away after a few minutes, you don't need to worry. However, if the noise persists or becomes louder, it's best to get it checked by a mechanic.

Hi Samantha, I had the same problem with my Ford Ranger. After doing some research, I found out that it's caused by engine carbon buildup. I recommend getting a fuel system cleaner and using it regularly. This should help mitigate the noise.

Hi Samantha, I own a Ford Ranger too and I've noticed the same knocking noise. I consulted with a mechanic and he said it's just the pistons expanding when the engine starts and it's nothing to worry about. However, if you're still concerned, it doesn't hurt to have it checked by a professional.
