Why is my Ford S-Max stalling?

I have a Ford S-Max and recently it has been stalling while driving. The engine shuts off and I have to restart it. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

I've had this problem before and it turned out to be a faulty spark plug. Have a mechanic check all of your spark plugs and replace any that are damaged.

This could also be caused by a faulty ignition coil. I had a similar issue with my old car and replacing the ignition coil solved the problem.
