Ford S-Max Technical Question - How to fix unresponsive power steering?

I recently bought a used Ford S-Max and noticed that the power steering is not working properly. Whenever I try to turn the steering wheel, it feels stiff and unresponsive. I have checked the power steering fluid and it seems to be at the correct level. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?

First, check the power steering belt to make sure it is not loose or worn out. If it is, replace it with a new one. If the belt is in good condition, then it could be a problem with the power steering pump. Have a mechanic check it and replace if necessary.

Another possible cause could be a faulty power steering rack and pinion. This can be a pricey fix, so make sure to get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic before going ahead with the repair.

If the power steering fluid is old or contaminated, it can also cause issues with the power steering. Try flushing out the old fluid and refilling with new fluid. This can sometimes solve the problem.
