What does the cabin air filter do in a Ford Mondeo and when should I replace it?

I recently purchased a used Ford Mondeo and I'm not sure if the cabin air filter has ever been replaced. Can you explain how it works and when I should replace it?

The cabin air filter is responsible for filtering the air that comes into the vehicle from the outside. It helps to remove dust, pollen, and other pollutants before they enter the cabin. It's recommended to replace the filter every 15,000-20,000 miles, or every 12 months, to maintain clean air inside the car.

Replacing the cabin air filter is a simple and inexpensive maintenance task that can greatly improve the air quality in your vehicle. If you or your passengers have allergies or respiratory issues, I would suggest replacing the filter more frequently.
