Which Engine Is Best For The Ford Galaxy?

I am looking to purchase a Ford Galaxy but I am not sure which engine would be the best choice for long-term performance. I have heard both good and bad things about the diesel and petrol engines, so I am looking for advice from someone with experience. Which engine would you recommend and why?
