How can I prevent rust on my Ford Fiesta?

I just purchased a new Ford Fiesta and I want to make sure it stays in pristine condition. I live in an area with a lot of humidity and salt on the roads in the winter. How can I prevent rust from forming on my car and maintain its value? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
