How to fix an overheating issue on my Ford Ranger pickup truck?

I noticed that my Ford Ranger has been overheating while driving for extended periods of time. The temperature gauge goes up and the engine starts making unusual noises. What could be the cause of this issue and how can I fix it?

Based on your description, it sounds like your coolant levels may be low. Check the reservoir and the radiator for any leaks or cracks. If you find any, have them repaired immediately. If the levels are okay, then it could be an issue with your thermostat or water pump. It's best to consult a mechanic for further diagnosis and repairs.

I had a similar issue with my Ford Ranger and it turned out to be a faulty radiator fan. When the engine reaches a certain temperature, the fan should kick in to cool it down. If it's not working properly, the engine will overheat. You can test this by turning on your AC, the fan should turn on as well. If it doesn't, then the fan needs to be replaced.

Another possibility could be a clogged radiator. Over time, debris and buildup can block the radiator's cooling fins, preventing proper heat dissipation. I suggest flushing out the cooling system and replacing the coolant. You can also try using a radiator cleaner to help remove any buildup.
