Why do Ford Fiestas have electric power steering?

I've noticed that newer Ford Fiestas have electric power steering, while older models used hydraulic power steering. What is the reasoning behind this change and is one type better than the other?

Electric power steering is becoming more common in cars because it allows for better fuel efficiency and easier control. It also eliminates the need for power steering fluid and reduces maintenance costs. It's a win-win!

I personally prefer hydraulic power steering because it gives a more traditional driving feel. But ultimately, it depends on personal preference and which type of steering system the car was designed for.
