Why is my Ford S-Max engine making a ticking noise?

I recently purchased a Ford S-Max and noticed that the engine is making a ticking noise. It seems to be happening randomly and I'm not sure if it's something I should be concerned about. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any advice on how to fix it?
